The DASH Club fulfills an important function in the day lives of a group of young people with additional support needs. It allows them to socialise with their friends, gives them the opportunity to access health promoting activities and take part in music, art and drama sessions under the tutelage of trained specialists. Through these diverse activities our young people are encouraged to reach their full potential whilst having a good time.
Services For 11-18 Year Olds
On a Tuesday the Club sessions are held at Ashton School’s newly refurbished swimming pool and games hall. The young people can choose between swimming or indoor ball game activities which include athletics and hockey. A sports coach trained by North Glasgow College leads the session in the sports hall.
On a Wednesday we offer 2 separate sessions – at Possilpoint Community Centre we have drama where a specialist drama coach works with our young people. The young people use their imagination to create scenarios where, with the help of staff and fellow students, they can enter the magical world of make believe. While the other sessions is held at Springfield Quay for 10 pin bowling. The coordinator takes a note of weekly scores and a trophy medal is awarded to the winner at the end of each term.
On a Thursday, a range of activities are offered at Ashton School to help alleviate transport issues. On a weekly basis, we have trained coach who plays games and puts our young people through their paces on the running machine and exercise bike. We also run blocks of art, dance, music and team games during the session as well as offer aromatherapy therapeutic massage.
